Just Soap bars are just as luxurious as boutique soap, at a fraction of the price.

We don't cut corners when it comes to quality. We're certified organic. We use sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients. We mix our soap by hand. We cure our bars for over two months to produce a long-lasting soap. We inspect every bar before it goes out.

It's the same quality of soap that might sell for triple the price in gift stores. That's because our mission at Just Soap is to offer boutique-quality soaps at grocery store prices. Keeping our prices low means that more people can afford to use a natural product as part of their daily routines.

Traditional soap making requires a lot of stirring. Founder Frederick Breeden found that he could process just 80 pounds of soap at a time when stirring by hand. He wanted to mix bigger batches in order to increase efficiency and keep the cost to the consumer as low as possible. An avid cyclist, he started to dream up a bike-related solution: he'd use a bicycle to churn the soap. His creative solution led to the bicycle-powered blender we use today, which allows us to process close to 500 pounds of soap at a time. This increased efficiency allows Just Soap to offer you handmade, certified organic soap at a fraction of the typical price.

Each batch takes 8 or 9 hours in total, but we are pedaling for just about 3 hours. The rest of the time we spend measuring oils, weighing ingredients, and pouring the finished soap into our molds.

The difficulty varies as the batch progresses. At the beginning, the mixture is thin and pedaling is easy. As the saponification reactions occur, the mixture thickens, and pedaling grows harder. Eventually the soap grows thick, and pedaling gets quite difficult. Luckily, that means it's almost ready to pour!

Moisture is the enemy of a long-lasting soap bar. To get the most use out of your soap, use a well-draining soap dish and allow the bar to dry fully between uses. In a high-use area, like a busy kitchen sink, try putting out two bars and alternating between them so they can dry. In a family bathroom where multiple people bathe in quick succession, try assigning a bar to each person so the soap can dry between uses.

Before use, the soap stores best in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

There is no Lye in finished soap. Lye, or sodium hydroxide, is an ingredient in all true soaps as opposed to detergents. Soap is made by mixing a weak acid (oil) with a strong base (typically lye) to produce a salt, which we call soap. As the mixture saponifies - or turns into soap - the original ingredients are transformed. By the time our soap is in your hands, the lye has reacted with the oils and is no longer present in the bar.

We source only sustainable organic palm oil, certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

All of our bar soaps are vegan except Oatmeal Honey, which contains raw honey. Our shampoo bars are also vegan. Our salves and lip balms use a beeswax base and are not vegan. Just Soap products are never tested on animals.
